The history of the United States refers to the history of American civilization from its inception to the present.


It can be divided into the pre-founding period, the founding period, the Civil War period, the Reconstruction period, the period of the two world wars, the Cold War period, and the post-Cold War period to the new century. Originally a British colony, the United States achieved victory in the War of Independence under Washington's leadership. The two world wars established America's position as a hegemon in the capitalist world, and after the end of the Cold War, America became a superpower.
